The Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOC) has published guidelines on
service stations that includes convenience retail, food services, car
maintenance and repair services from 2011 to 2015.
The publishes guidelines also allows the incorporation of non-fuel services when planning and building new service stations.
The guidelines included consolidating service station services with the
assistance of technology, e-commerce, enhanced logistics and chain
store operations. A programme of development for the existing
service station network has been outlined with priority for sites close
to residential areas, and expressways (MSA’s) will be among the
first to be upgraded, according to the MOC. As China becomes one
of the world's largest motor cehicle markets, demand for all-around
service stations is on the rise, and such facilities can boost profit
and competitiveness, as well as optimize land use and create more jobs,
the MOC said.
