64 people, including PetroChina President Jiang Jiemin, have been disciplined by authorities for refinery accidents in northeast Dalian City, according to news agency Xinhua. The accidents, which included oil pipeline explosions that led to the country’s worst oil spill in July 2010, saw PetroChina International President Wang Lihau receive an ‘administrative’ demotion and a severe warning, Xinhua reported.
Of the 64 people who faced disciplinary action, 14 have been suspected of criminal acts and were handed over to judicial departments to face charges. The 14 include officials from local firms that gave services to PetroChina facilities.
Accidents in October, July and August of 2010, included a July 16 explosion and fire that took over 15 hours to extinguish and caused losses of nearly 224m Yuan. With a capacity of 400,000 bpd, the Dalian plant is Petrochina’s largest facility.
