BP in the Perth, Western Australia has been accused of high fuel prices
by the RAC for increasing unleaded petrol prices despite falling
international prices.
Every week for the past six months Perth has been firmly in the grip
of a weekly price hike in unleaded petrol prices with a rise this week
of 16 cents per litre across many BP service stations. Most BP
sites across the metropolitan area will increase their unleaded petrol
price to 124.9 cents per litre, while some Caltex sites in the Mandurah
area will also increase prices by the same amount.
RAC head of member advocacy Matt Brown said it was "ridiculous" Perth
motorists were being forced to pay inflated prices when the
international price of petrol was coming down. "If the average price is
111 cents why would anyone pay 124 cents at BP?”
FuelWatch advises 202 petrol stations across Perth will be selling
below the metropolitan average of 111.8 cents per litre. Deputy
Prices Commissioner Aaron Rayner said the difference between the most
expensive brand, BP, and the cheapest brand, Coles Express, would be 12
cents a litre. "I encourage motorists to search for the cheapest
price in their area before filling up," Mr Rayner said.
