The Fair Work Ombudsman
has launched a prosecution against Freedom Fuels Australia Pty Ltd for
allegedly underpaying its staff more than $191,000.
The company allegedly
underpaid a total of 234 employees $191,197 between May 2006 and July 2009. The company has commenced back-paying
the affected employees after they were allegedly underpaid overtime and penalty
rates for weekend, shift and public holiday work.
The employees, including
a number of juniors under 21 years old, worked as casual and part-time console
operators. A directions hearing will be held in the Federal Magistrates Court
in Brisbane on June 27 and the company could face penalties.
