An increasing number of government bodies are choosing to convert their transportation fleets to compressed natural gas (CNG) operated engines, the Governor of Oklahoma, Mary Fallin (pictured) has said. A total of 22 states have already moved or are planning a move towards CNG, which she noted is cheap, emits less carbon into the atmosphere and is in plentiful supply.
“We are moving the needle,” Fallin said, addressing a summit organised to discuss the future of the fuel. “We are in a game-changer moment.” Fallin also spoke of measures she helped to bring into effect that have seen the Environmental Protection Agency provide the same sort of assistance to CNG interests as it does to electric or other alternatives.
Fallon said that, despite the promise shown by CNG, slow demand continues to hold the fledgling industry back. Some state bodies have decided to pool orders in an effort to get around this however, prompting large automakers to take an interest in accommodating their orders.
