Better Place has announced that the infrastructure for its battery swap system, allowing drivers to swap exhausted electric vehicle batteries for fresh ones, is now operational in Israel. The company will now test the system with a 100-car fleet of electric vehicles across the country
The Fluence Z.E. cars have been developed by Renault to facilitate the easy swapping of batteries. They will initially be leased out only to Better Place employees during the course of the trial. Afterwards, customers will be able to buy Fluence Z.E. cars and subscribe to Better Place’s EV charging and swapping service.
The system of swapping rather than charging every time a battery is exhausted is designed to facilitate longer journeys, and is complemented by charging stations for overnight or long stops. Better place has agreed partnerships with France, Israel and Denmark to install battery swap and charging stations.
