Ethanol is once again being distributed to local dealers for blending with fuel from Greenfuel, with 12 fuel service stations already selling a blend of 10% ethanol and 90% petroleum. The company says that incorporating ethanol into the local blend will help replace imports, saving the country valuable foreign currency.
The blending of regular fuel with ethanol had previously stopped in 1992, when a drought affected the supply of raw materials for ethanol production. However, Greenfuel has partnered with the Zimbabwean Government and introduced contemporary technologies to resume large scale production. The company said that its Chisumbanje plant is currently processing 2,500 tonnes of cane into an ethanol output of 180,000 litres per day
“What has also been a point of motivation towards our product has been the lower price on our blend and the desire by most motorists to use clean local, environmentally friendly fuel,” said a statement from the company, which confirmed that negotiations with are in progress with vendors to expand the availability of blended fuel.
