Zambia’s Energy Minister Christopher Yaluma has announced that the Government will end a levy on fuel that had previously been used to fund strategic reserves. Now, Yaluma said, the Government would assume responsibility to ensure fuel needs were met. “The onus of holding fuel will go into the hands of Government. The Government will take that risk and will ensure that we do not have shortages. Right now, the Government has ensured that storage facilities are built across the country,” he told reporters.
Minister Yaluma said that, as a result of the change, the price of petrol at the pump would fall from 8,647 Zambian kwacha per litre to 8,155 kwacha per litre. Diesel prices, meanwhile, will be reduced to 7,566 kwacha per litre from midnight.
