Fuel products in the UAE will be measured in litres instead of imperial gallons starting 1st January 2010.
The new measure is being implemented in line wiht international best
practices. However it will not affect the price of fuel at the
pump. All fuel retailers will have to May 2010 to complete the
installation of new measurement meters at the service station. The UAE
Cabinet Decision No.31 of 2006 on teh national system of measurement,
provided the legal framework to the use of International System of
units. January 2010 was the deadline date set.
The Director
General of the Emirates Authority for Standarisation and
Metrology (ESMA), Mohammed Saleh Badri confirmed that ADNOC, ENOC and
Emarat will implement the new measurement unit from January 2010.
