The UAE will upgrade two of its refineries by 2011 to meet the surge in
domestic demand for oil products, the International Energy Agency (IEA)
has said.
In its timetable for scheduled upgrades in global refining capacity,
the Paris-based IEA, which advises 28 industrialised nations of the
world on energy policy, said expansion at the Abu Dhabi National Oil
Company's (Adnoc) Ruwais refinery is scheduled to be completed during
the fourth quarter of 2011, while the hydrotreating expansion at the
Jebel Ali refinery of the Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) is
scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2009.
The Ruwais refinery, operated by Adnoc's unit Takreer, currently has a
refining capacity of 400,000 barrels per day (bpd). The refinery
processes up to 120,000 bpd of crude oil and 280,000 bpd of condensate.
Enoc's Jebel Ali refinery has a 70,000 bpd LPG-naphtha hydrotreater and
a 36,000 bpd crude catalytic reformer.
