Fuel Service Stations in all 10 Southern Sudan states are running dry after delays due in from a Kenyan port were delayed. Operations are not expected to be resumed until late next week says the oil-rich country’s government, which has advised the population not to panic.
“There have been delays in pumping of fuel from Kenya’s port of Mombasa via pipelines to Nakuri, Eldoret and Kisumu, where fuel companies load their supplies. They have told us that they are working on it,” said Macar Aciek, the Undersecretary in the Ministry for Petroleum in the city of Juba.
Fares on public transport have increased due to the delays, while long queues have plagued what fuel service stations still sell fuel.
The shortages came soon after the country decided to begin importing from North Sudan again, after two fell out earlier in the year. Sudan and South Sudan have been holding peace talks in Ethiopia in an effort to resolve differences that have existed since Sudan split in two last year.
