South African Petroleum Industry Association Elects New Chairperson

Mncedi (Douglas) Zulu has been elected as Chairperson of the South African Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA) with effect from July 2008.
Douglas succeeds Mr Monwabisi Fandeso as the SAPIA Chairperson. Douglas has been with Shell for more than 30 years. During this time, he has held several senior positions and directorships within the Shell group and has worked overseas.
In a statement issued in Cape Town today Douglas said "I am deeply humbled by the responsibility the industry has placed on me and will do my very best to advance the goals SAPIA was set up to achieve".
Douglas further said that strengthening the relationship between Sapia and the government would be a key objective for him, "given the strategic nature of the petroleum industry and its significance to the economy". He stressed that he believed the petroleum industry should continue to play a
significant role in ensuring security of supply of petroleum products.
