Aggregate sales of major petroleum products showed an increase of 0,5%
in the second quarter of 2008 as compared to the second quarter of
2007, according to the South African Petroleum Industry Association
(SAPIA).
The most significant increase in the regular products was in diesel, which showed an increase of 3,7%. HFO and Bitumen increased by 24,8% and 24,4% respectively. LPG increased by 10,3%. Petrol sales declined by 2,8%, Paraffin sales by 19,8% and Jet Fuel sales by 0,7% . This could be as a result of the price increases during the second quarter.
The percentage split of petrol sales between ULP and LRP was as follows:
2nd qtr
ULP 63,8%
LRP 36,2%
This indicates a growing increase in the penetration of ULP. Total 2nd qtr volumes compared to the 1st qtr of 2008 showed a decrease of 6%, caused mainly by increases of product prices.
