State-owned oil firm PetroSA has named Nosizwe Nokwe (pictured) as its new CEO. Nokwe will take up the position on March 1, becoming the company’s first ever female CEO. Energy Minister Dipuo Peters welcomed the move. “This is very much in line with PetroSA’s mandate not only to ensure security of fuels supply, but also to advance transformation in the sector,” she said. "The Board is to be congratulated for demonstrating to PetroSA's peers that it is possible to find a competent woman to lead an Oil Company in this country… We expect Ms Nokwe to serve as a role model for young women in the sector who can now see that the so called ceiling in liquid fuels has been broken forever," added Peters.
Nokwe’s qualifications include an MSc degree in petrochemical engineering from the Moscow Institute of Oil and Gas, along with other diplomas and certificates. “I am grateful for the confidence shown in me by the PetroSA board and the Minister of Energy. Together with the PetroSA team, I look forward to repaying that confidence by ensuring that our national oil company realises its full potential,” she remarked.
