Engen has negotiated a breakthrough fee concession by the banks on VISA
and MasterCard credit card payments that are processed through our
Secure Electronic Fund Transfer (SEFT) infrastructure.
The deal has spurred a fuel payment revolution, as Engen
dealers are now able to accept cost-effective card payments for fuel
and other retail items at 600 of our 1-Stop and Quickshop service
stations across the country.
The announcement follows a recent law amendment that allows dealers to
accept cards – partly to accommodate the massive influx of
international visitors expected in 2010. Engen is backing up
government thinking in this regard and gearing up to offer a
world-class retail experience that is both safer and more convenient
than ever before. Engen is also well prepared to extending an
African Welcome to all visitors, including the soccer fans from around
the world coming to South africa for the soccer World Cup.
While the regulations don't compel fuel service station dealers to
accept credit cards, Engen now encourages them to accept cards
covered by the deal, as a much lower fee than usual (1.75% of the
amount of the transaction) will now be levied.
Engen is one of the first networks to respond to government wishes,
across all their Quickshop sites as well as others that are able to
manage SEFT transactions. To prepare for this new development, Engen
automation department has been enabling all SEFT devices. Consumers are
advised to look out for ‘credit card accepted' signage at participating
service stations!
