Woqod will be operating the first LPG service station in Qatar soon and
opening three new Woqod branded service stations by the end of October.
The first LPG service station (Autogas) in Qatar is nearing
completion on the Mowasalat premises. Mowasalat is the Qatar Transport
Company whose operations include bus and taxi fleets.
The installation of safety equipment for the first LPG service station.
Mowasalat has already acquired the LPG-run buses. According to the
official, the service station has a capacity of 20,000 cubic litres of
LPG, which will be enough to operate 50 vehicles for three to four
months. On the overall expansion programme of the company, the
official said Mowasalat will add 300 more new cars to its existing
fleet in the next two months.
Woqod vice-chairman and managing director Mohamed Turki al-Sobai told
local media that three new service stations will be opened by the
end of October. Another seven service station stations were in the
design stage. Woqod service stations include a convenience store,
Internet café, post office, food court, laundry, car wash and oil
change bays services.
Al-Sobai said the response to Woqod’s petroleum product – Gasoline Gold
with an octane content of 95, was not “very high”. It might be because
of the small difference in price between Gasoline Silver and Gasoline
Platinum. “But we will keep Gasoline Gold in our filling stations.
That’s our strategy,” he said. Gasoline Gold is a blend of
Gasoline Silver and Gasoline Platinum. He also said Woqod reported a
40% jump in its first half net profit to QR351.30mn.
