Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has called for a link between the price of world gas prices and that of oil. Speaking at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), al-Thani said that members should insist on a firm link between the two sources of fuel. “It is not logical that the difference between prices for oil and gas are rising in favor of oil, despite the environmental advantages of gas. For this reason, gas exporters should not have to abandon their fair demands that the price of gas be pegged to oil prices,” he said.
Al-Thani added that GEFC members should not cut production to push prices up. "We are talking not about control over the production of gas, but about other of our possibilities, such as the modernisation and advancement of technologies that expand the use of gas, supporting the use of gas in international and regional fields, forming a standards base for the use of gas as a more ecological type of fuel, providing informational and technical support, and promoting gas on new markets," he said.
