The Weights and Measures Department, federal ministry of commerce and
industry, said it inspected service stations regularly for customers to
get value for their money.
Mr Paul Itula, the National Head of Weights and Measures Department,
made this pledge in Abuja after inspecting some service stations and
Liquified Cooking Gas facility. `The service stations have
fuel dispensing meters, and the manufacturers, the LPG
plants have scales,” he said. On the inspection, Itula said most of the
petrol stations visited maintained discipline and standards, except for
the AP service station at Maitama. This closed because for every 20
litres, customers were cheated by 2.8 liters in some pumps and 1.43
liters in others. The Manager of the station, Mr Segun Olusa, said the
pump was not manipulated or tampered with but had technical fault which
would be rectified.
