Deputy Superintendent, Weights and Measures Division, Federal Ministry
of Commerce and Industry, Mr Jude Ejimadu, has alerted the public to
the fraudulent activities of some petrol retail dealers.
He urged the public to be vigilant and promptly report doubtful
measures of petroleum products, grains, cement and other products to
the ministry, to avoid being cheated by dishonest dealers.
Ejimadu, who is leading a team from the ministry currently monitoring
activities of marketers in Anambra, told local media that they had
inspected dispensing pumps in about 50 petrol stations in the state.
He said the areas covered by the team include Ekwulobia, Nnewi,
Onitsha, Oba, Awkuzu, and Ozubulu, adding that three defaulting service
stations sealed, would be further investigated.
Ejimadu said the stations had “varying degrees of errors,” ranging from
half a litre to 1.5 litres on every 20 litres of the products dispensed
to their customers. He said the team embarked on the exercise to ensure
that customers were not short-changed through dispensing pumps and
other weighing and measuring instruments.
