The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has announced that it will test petroleum products nationwide following consumer reports of adulteration. Speaking as he unveiled the organisation’s agenda for 2012, SON Director General Joseph Odumodu said that fuels would be tested from landing point to the pump.
“Anyone or station found wanting will be made to face the music. Not only will such station be closed, the people behind such atrocity will be made to face the wrath of the law,” remarked Odumodu.
SON will collaborate with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to test products across the distribution chain, Odumodu added. “We have received several reports on fuel adulteration in the country and this will form our major agenda for 2012. We will not only carry out the testing at the landing points at the ports, we will take it to all the over 15,000 filling stations across the country,” he said.
