Indications emerged that there is no immediate end to the fuel shortage crisis in Lagos, which started three days ago.
The situation has now been made worse with the news that a
NNPC pipeline has been damaged. The damaged pipeline is used to pump
fuel from Atlas Cove to Mosimi. Petroleum Products Marketing Company
(PPMC) Spokesman, Ralph Ugwu, blamed the fire explosion on
vandals. Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria
(IPMAN) Mosimi Chairman, Adebisi Bada, warned that it will affect
supply “If it is not addressed urgently.”
National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) Lagos
Zonal Chairman, Tokunbo Korodo, had explained earlier in the week that
the scarcity is caused by shortage in supply, which makes the NNPC to
ration the product.
“Loading in Lagos has been done by rationing for about one and half
months. Supply has, however, been increased for bridging to Abuja since
after the action embarked upon by tanker drivers,” Korodo maintained.
But NNPC Spokesperson, Levi Ajuonuma, declared that there is no fuel
shortage, and there is no basis for scarcity.
