Group General Manager Public Relations of the NNPC, Dr. Lev. Ajuonuma
has briefed local media that illegal practices have been blamed for
the shortage of petroleum products being experienced in Kano in recent
days.
Some top management staff of NNPC that included the Group Executive
Director, Commerce and Investment, Alhaji Aminu Baba Kusa, the Managing
Director, Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Mr. R.C Stanley
and the Group General Manager, Public Relations among others visited
Kano yesterday in response to the report of the scarcity.
Dr. Ajuonuma said investigation conducted by the organization has shown
that the scarcity has been as a result of some marketers completely
refusing to sell the product, even though it is available, while others
operated their service stations with minimum nozzles working on fuel
islands , all in an attempt to create scarcity.
While promising that those responsible for artificial scarcity would be
dealt with by appropriate organization, said already the management of
the Directorate of Petroleum Products Marketing is doing everything
possible to close down any petrol stations found to be involved
in such practices, adding: "I have no doubt that those involved will be
punished by the appropriate authority."
