The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has warned that it would
henceforth deal with any criminal act of fuel diversion by reporting
offending operators to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) for prosecution.
The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Engr. Muhammed Barkindo, made a
statemment during a meeting with the newly elected leadership of
the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers (NUPENG) at
NNPC HQ in Abuja. He also said the passage of the Petroleum
Industry Bill will help to further accelerate the much anticipated
process of reform and transformation in the country's energy sector.
Mr Barkindo said the management of the oil company had identified
independent Jetty operators for the purpose of utilising their
facilities to aid supply of petroleum products. However it
discovered that these jetties illegally diverted a huge
volume of petroleum product.
Barkindo said while the management would encourage the smooth
business relationship between its subsidiary, the Pipeline products
Marketing Company (PPMC) and the jetty operators, but it would
not accept any form of abuse of the process.
