Nipco has moved to reassure consumers that the company has sufficient resources to guarantee supplies during the ember months and beyond. Managing Director Venkataraman Venkatapathy, speaking at the Oil Trading & Logistics Conference/Exhibition in Abuja, said that no efforts would be spared to prevent fuel scarcity and that the company is committed to maintaining a steady supply, particularly in the northern region.
In conversation with Ibrahim Shehu Njiddah , Senior Special Assistant to the President on Energy Partnership, Venkatapathy also noted the company’s extensive retail network of 5,000 partnering outlets and its role in promoting the use of CNG in transport. According to Venkatapathy, over 250 taxis are running on CNG as a result of programmes introduced in Benin by Nipco in partnership with the Nigerian Gas Company. "Aside from inaugurating CNG stations in Benin, some incentive schemes were also introduced alongside to reduce the burden of installing the kits in vehicles. Cars running on CNG enjoy 50 per cent savings in fuel, in addition to making the city of Benin greener," Venkatapathy said. He added that the company has put a robust transportation system of over 20 trucks to carry LPG around the country.
