The first CNG service stations in Nigeria are ready for commissioning
but awaiting official bureauracy to appoint offical opening date.
The Condensed Natural Gas (CNG) service stations, which are being
managed by a private firm-, NIPCO Nigeria Plc, were supposed to have
been commissioned in October but the inability of the presidency to fix
a date. A top manager staff of the company told local media that
the gas stations in Benin were ready, waiting for commissioning."We are
ready, everything is set, it is just for the presidency to fix a date
so that the stations could be commissioned for us to begin operations".
It was believed that the cost of CNG for vehicles could be two times
cheaper than conventional fuel, but the cost of converting engines from
petrol to gas could be expensive, even as the Federal Government had
promised incentives that would encourage Nigerians to turn to gas for
their vehicles instead of petrol.
