Kano state government has stopped the construction of a petrol station
at Panshekara-Madobi because of the imminent danger it poses to water
supply in the metropolis.
The state commissioner of projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji
(Dr.) Ibrahim Garba announced this decision during an inspection visit
to the facility this week. Dr. Ibrahim Garba explained that the state
government had to take this measure because the petrol station is being
built on four main pipes transmitting water from the Challawa Water
Works to Kano Municipality. He pointed out that building the facility
on the water supply lines is a serious threat which the state
government would not condone in the overall interest of the public.
On his part, the state Water Board General-Manager in charge of water
distribution, Engr. Nasiru Kura lamented that the petrol station is
being built on four water pipes and six control valves. Engr. Nasiru
Kura stated that with this negative development, the Board could not
carry out repair works or control water supply to consumers as three
valves had already been covered, describing this as very
dangerous.
