Residents' fear that with so many service stations located in
residential areas all over the expressway, safety standards may not be
adhered to which could lead to high health and safety risks for
residents.
Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) regulation is that service
stations should not be located too close to each other (for safety
reasons). However the Abuja-Keffi highway has many branded
service stations side by side or in close proximity. These
inlcude the petrol retail brands of Oando, Conoil, Abdul-Abdul,
Total, Tin oil, Texaco, Adehie and Verbin oil and Willino.
Most of the fears are centered on the potential fire risks in an
area that has in recent years experienced some serious incidents of
fires at service stations.
