Nambia: Mobil Fuel Station Venture Delayed

Friday, 30 September 2011

It is almost two years since Petrotek Namibia was launched and the mobile fuel-vending venture is finally close to become operational. Petrotek Namibia is to supply mobile containerised fuel service stations.

petrotec_30311.pngThe containerised service station offers an alternative fuel dispensing technology in the form of a compact micro fully autonomous retail convenience service station that is immediately operational within three hours. According to one of Petrotek's directors, Elvis Nashilongo, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Isak Katali, during a meeting three months ago asked for more time so that his officials could take care of issues.

One of the main delays, cited in January 2011, was the fact that the Ministry of Mines and Energy wanted to study all aspects pertaining to safety and security, as well as the environmental impact of mobile units, before the company be allowed to issue fuel licenses to Petrotek clients.

In addition, Nashilongo said, the Namibia Standards Institution (NSI) also has to do its part to ensure that all is up to standard. He however revealed in January that the company had received certification from the NSI.
"We are hopeful issues will be ironed out. It is a regulatory issue and not only for Petrotek but it will affect the whole industry," Nashilongo said.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Josef Iita, eight months ago said, "the process was at an advanced stage and should be finalised soon".
