Workers striking over unpaid wages forced the closure of more than 25
petrol stations in Kuwait run by Kuwait Petroleum National Company
(KNPC), a local newspaper reported.
The mainly Bangladeshi workers staged a one-day protest saying they had not been paid for four months, Kuwait Times reported.
KNPC was forced to look for workers from others companies to keep its
service stations running but was not able to find enough replacements,
the newspaper said. Oil-rich Kuwait relies on foreign workers to do
work its citizens either cannot or would not do.
Strikes by foreign workers are rare in Gulf states that do not allow trade unions with the exception of Bahrain.
