Retail chain Nakumatt Holdings is set to develop ‘Express’ convenience
stores in city suburbs and residential estates as part of its expansion
plans.
To be branded as Nakumatt Express, the supermarket’s operations
director Thiagarajan Ramamurthy says that the demand for formal retail
options is growing by the day and the launch of the shops will tap into
the market.
He said in a statement that a viability study is complete and
pilot outlets are set to be opened across Nairobi suburbs and estates
with the launch of the pioneer store at Kahawa Wendani in Nairobi
(December 08).
The introduction of the new store formats which are smaller than
supermarkets, Mr Ramamurthy explained, will serve to complement the
existing Nakumatt Supermarket and hypermarket retail store formats. “As
part of our corporate expansion strategy, we are now entering the
convenience store market segment which we hope will continue to deliver
value to our customers,” he said.
