Total Ethiopia has announced that it will launch a solar powered fuel service station, the first such facility in East Africa. Haile Eyesus, Communications and Public Affairs Manager of Total Ethiopia, said the project will be constructed in the Djibouti corridor, citing the busy area along with high termperatures and sunshine as deciding factors for the location.
The project will be constructed at a cost of 900,000,000 birr, with the station powered by solar panels during the day. The solar batteries can supply power for up to 12 hours, while a supply from the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation will act as back-up.
Total Ethiopia has a network of 186 fuel service stations nationwide, with 70,000 daily customers.
